## About GetIP.io

GetIP.io provides tools for inspecting IP addresses, network-related information, IP geolocation data, and the privacy status of the user's current network connection.

The service can identify the public IP address detected for the current visitor or look up information associated with another IP address.

GetIP.io also includes a Network Privacy Monitor that helps users understand whether their current connection appears to be protected and, when possible, which service or provider is responsible for that protection.

## IP Lookup

Users can open GetIP.io to identify the public IP address used by their current connection.

Another IP address can also be entered manually to retrieve information associated with that address.

## IP Geolocation and Network Information

Depending on data availability, GetIP.io can provide:

* IP address
* Latitude and longitude
* Time zone
* Postal code
* Proxy status
* Network provider

IP-based location information is an estimate derived from network data and should not be interpreted as a precise physical location.

## Lookup History

GetIP.io maintains a local history of IP address lookups.

Recent lookup data is stored in the user's browser using localStorage rather than as a server-side account history.

This allows users to quickly return to IP addresses they have previously inspected without manually entering them again.

GetIP.io provides basic history management capabilities, including removing stored history items and clearing the locally stored lookup history.

Because this history is stored locally, it is associated with the browser and device where the lookup was performed.

## Network Privacy Monitor

GetIP.io includes a Network Privacy Monitor for inspecting the privacy status of the current network connection.

The monitor can indicate whether the connection appears to be protected or unprotected.

When sufficient network information is available, it can also identify the service or provider associated with the detected protection.

This feature is informational only.

GetIP.io does not establish a VPN connection, encrypt network traffic, route traffic through a proxy, or otherwise provide network protection through Network Privacy Monitor.

Its purpose is to help users understand how their current connection is exposed to the Internet and whether a privacy or network protection service appears to be active.
